in my country, we will be having a 2 day Muslim holiday. I have mapped out all the programming tasks I need to attend to during those days and thinking of staying back at the office but my gf is thinking of coming over. this will mean not achieving all the tasks which is a problem as I Dont know when next such holiday will be.

how best do I tell her not to come?

    Just tell her the truth, you have tasks to do and thatmaybe later you can take her out. Good luck!

    @rtannerf this means all the tasks suffers.

    I have a gf too and im not in college or working so i dont have many projects, and sometimes i just wanna sit down and keep learning new stuff during all the weekend to improve but she calls me to do something and i accept so my productivity goes down but my happiness up

    @rtannerf they are personal projects, not official tasks.

    I get your point though, having a good work-life balance.

    thanks for that

    Life + work balance is important. But if she's a keeper, person goes first in priorities. There are a lot of jobs...unless well, unless.... ;-)

    So why I ty to say I'm with @galaxyfinder1 on this. You may not finish the task but you will be happier

    I agree, spend time with her.

    Also, knowing that you could be working on your system but specifically choose not to do so for her might help reset this strange idea of hers that you love it more than her, so bonus points. (At least for a while) ^_^

    @arminiae thanks, you spoke from the stand point of a lady.

    @sunnyokoro yes, and as a fellow dev!XD

    I was close to workaholic levels before i met my bf, but spending time together instead (even if it's still in front of the pc, gaming or watching youtube) is simply worth it.

    Try to balance seeing her and working on some tasks over the Holiday. Dinner, lunch, watching Halt and Catch Fire...Let us know what happens.

    There will always be more work... but there might not always be more time with your loved ones.
