    @d4ng3r0u5 its liquid retina display is effectively a 720p display

    Not to be picky, but what the iPhone XR won't be able to do in any case would be playing 1080p content *in native resolution.* Unless the hardware is physically unable to process that much information, which I don't think will be the case, nothing prevents you from playing a 1080p stream scaled to a smaller screen.

    @SukMikeHok You can pre-order a Purism Librem 5. The pledge to get a phone will cost you a 150-200 dollars cheaper than iPhone XR, and the Librem will probably be more useful.

    iPhone Xr has 1792 x 828 pixel at 6.1” (326 ppi). That’s not enough for 1080p but you won’t notice the difference because of the screen size.

    @mishaor probably your suggestion lacks a lot of the native iOS features like iMessage, iCloud, Continuity and many others

    iMessage -> Riot.im
    iCloud -> Nextcloud
    Continuity -> KDE Connect

    @mishaor here are some of the obvious implications:
    Riot.im: I am not alone! 80+% of my family and friends are Apple users and I won’t convince them to use any other IM.

    Nextcloud: I have a Nextcloud instance running on my own server for file sync and transfer. But Nextcloud won’t sync all my passwords, browser history and open tabs nor is it integrated in fotos on iOS and MacOS

    KDE connect is not available for MacOS. Can it handle calls and messages from a phone including address book, history and attachments?

    Yikes. The X and later can play 4K just fine. Not that it makes any sense to do that... Nearly no one can tell the difference even between 720 and 1080 on a screen that small. I can barely tell the difference between 1080P and 4K in my iPad Pro 10.5.
