Relatives: What does he do as a job?
Mom: He's an informatician, he tinkers with computers
Me: No, I'm a programmer.
Relatives: Is it computer related?
Me: Yes, but..
Relative: Sounds like an informatician to me.

I'm so tempted to say that I butcher animals, but I'm afraid they'll think I'm a veterinarian.

    Well... in this case... you might as well be a butcher of code.

    They're kinda right, imho :/
    And no, that doesn't mean you're a farmer, or a homeless politician.

    You do/practice something with Information Technology, making you just that: fall into the Informaticians group of people.

    Y so serious.

    I think it is funny how people forget their roots.

    As soon as someone ads engineer to their study field they are to good to be generalized.

    Informatician is an actual word?

    @Gregozor2121 may I ask which language? Also, what is the job of an informatician?

    Technically you do butcher animals, you kill bugs don't ya 🤔.

    Kinda sucks how muggles call us, but when I say that I'm a sysadmin, or an electronics engineer, or a security guy / hacker.. to them it's all the same anyway. Flipping the ones and zeroes. I tend to prefer the umbrella term "technologist" over "informatician" though :/

    @tacticalKimchi
    The informatican
    "Informatyk" <- in polish
    the guy who solves problems with pc's, he dosent know how to code (it isnt nessesary) but he is your go to when you want to setup, fix, change something on pc. He is able to upgrade hardware as well.
    Basicly it translates to IT support
    (he sould be proficient in all fields of IT: os'es, networking, software, hardware but coding isnt required)

    And you know calling a programer a IT support guy is a bit offensive...

    @Gregozor2121 Thanks for the explanation. I would choose Informatician over IT support any day! Sounds sophisticated

    @tacticalKimchi
    Thats how i understand it...

    Wikipedia says that it translates to computer sciencist in english.
    Look up the article on that. It perfectly explains everything.

    I think that word dosent exist in english...

    In addition to that nearly everyone in my country thinks that informatician = IT support today.... So casual meaning is different from the real one at least in my launguage!
