I gonna puke if I see more whining on android studio from a guy having 8GB of ram and running IDE emulator and a browser. To remind everyone, decent android phones have 4GB of ram or more. They have memory cards with io speeds comparable to SSD. They have 10 core CPUs. And still, people want to develop on potatoes.

    Do i need a server grade computer to develop a calculator for android? Or maybe quantum one.

    Apps != android studio

    @hack having 16 or 32 GB of ram is a minimum requirement for most pc games.
    And you are going to DEVELOP for and EMULATE different hardware architecture and yet want to have less ram than typical device with that architecture? Seriously?

    @tokumei android studio itself is not so heavy, i use IntelliJ on daily basis, they differ by the plugins. Maven or gradle - no bigger difference. Only that I work on laptop that has i7 2.7GHZ with 16GB of ram and SSD drive. My workstation is i5 3.1 GHz with 32GB of ram.
    Java app I develop can consume over 8GB of RAM without a hassle. And still it working flawlessly.
    You want to be a developer, get yourself decent hardware, not equivalent of modern smartphone.

    @mt3o I have 8gb ram notebook with 1050ti in it. I can play my games like WoW, Prey, CoD, GTA. 32 gb min ram for a game? Can you give an example? Do we install games on ram nowadays?

    Decent gpu. That's responsible for the nice graphics, but not overall performance.
    However regarding games - you meant gta 3? Or 5? Or which one?
    Try latest Witcher on highiest details.

    I always have these open: phpstorm, chrome with tons of tabs, sequelpro, Skype, Spotify, Dashlane, mamp pro, photoshop, shift, slack, and a few others. My 2015 MacBook is an i7 with 16gb ram and I use about 70% to 80% of my RAM most of the time. My CPU usage varies but is rarely high. I could get away with 8gb of RAM if I changed my habits. I also have a desktop I built with an i7 and 32gb of ram. I rarely use over 22gb on that with all the same stuff running plus vagrant.

    Amen to that!! As developer you should have decent, high performing hardware. Not only because working on that makes life so fuckin' nice but also because it's fast and that allows you to work fast too. People often make fun because I have a portable desktop (big fat 17" laptop) with awesome specs. I don't care. I'm a professional and use professional tools.
