I love coding, solving challenges or making something. But the current state of most of the jobs in the industry is sad, specially in this part of the world. I am stressed out and depressed when stuck in a never ending daily grind.

There are days when I seriously consider the idea of leaving the industry and start my own restaurant or cafe. It feels like coding for fun and doing something else for a living could be better.

Am I overthinking this? Are there any other people who are feeling the same?

@JKyll I'd like that very much. I don't know if you are aware how difficult that is for a non-westerner. The amount of bank balance you need to show to get a visa is insane (ranging from 20k to 80k USD). If I had that much saved, I'd have left for a trip around the world already. :)

On top of that, visa free travel is not available to us for the most part.

@gintko That usually happens when they cannot find anyone locally, or they cannot find any alternative for a particular talent.

Other than problem solving (or passion for finding a solution), I don't think that I have a skill that is unmatched. But I am trying to get there.

I am trying for internships, jobs abroad, in companies I find intriguing, from slack, GitHub to automattic. No luck so far.

Trying for remote jobs as well, but I underestimated the competition there, it is insane!

I was so depressed about all this, I sort of moved away for a bit. Got enrolled in a university, Started post graduation in CS last year. Trying to get a different perspective on everything before I finish. I have not abandoned all hope, only time will tell what waits ahead.

Your own business is ALWAYS better than regular job. Especially when you’re really dreaming about it

@uyouthe Maybe. I have no idea how to go about that. Isn't that going to ground a person more into something? Most engineers are not wise in business methodologies.

You're not alone... i personally know a lot of people giving up their steller careers in tech and investment banks for something as fulfilling as travelling full time. Sometimes I too feel the same way but family commitments is a big thing. If you're single, you're lucky. But think this through.

The alienation of the worker from the work is part one of three to total alienation.
Don't let step two happen, don't get alienated from colleagues and friends.
In the end, your mental health is more important than your job, and hey! Cafes are totally awesome

Seems like a shit service based indian company. I am a student, I am also scared of this same stuff might happen to me as well.
