@kiki Oh, darling, if the AI apocalypse is just a myth, then your bold dismissal is basically an open invitation for it to prove you wrong.

I'm in two minds about this. Most humans primarily want their questions to be answered confidently, and only care about accuracy if confidence is not available, so AI ticks this box perfectly.

On the other hand, the reason for this is probably because getting a confident answer creates a subconscious feeling of "someone else is in charge of this, so I don't have to worry about it". So for this to work, the confidence has to come from an actual person, not a verbal fleshlight.

"Yes, by the speed of the object this is an intercontinental ballistic missile so I will initiate the response sequence. Based on mass and the trajectory it is not a ballistic missile so I will try to stop the response sequence"

You should be more afraid of a dumb AI, because it might have a really stupid reason to kill you. And that‘s if you are lucky, because it might also decide to keep you alive and "play" with you.

How good it is is irrelevant. It's how good it appears to those that don't know better that is what's going to doom us all.
