Back on Android after 3 and a half miserable years on iPhone. I haven't cursed this thing once primarily because the typing experience is immediately far far far far more pleasant.
Oh, and if you do decide to switch, which I recommend, be ready not to receive texts from iPhone users for about 24 hours after you perform the deregistration ceremony. That is a level of evil I wasn't expecting and truly should be illegal.5 -
Here’s a novel rant no one has ever seen before.
The iPhone keyboard is absolutely the worst input method ever created. Even primitive keyboards from the 80s are more usable.
I would use a madcatz controller to type instead of this garbage given the choice.
And you know what’s a good interface design? Making the music player controls on the lock screen disappear when Bluetooth connects37 -
When you spend 16-20 hours a day in front of a computer you have to keep things fresh.
Got some of these
https://a.co/d/0u8FvIy
to go with this
https://a.co/d/6ludmps
after using this for 10 years
https://a.co/d/0PDxmxL
and the experience is night and day. Just having lit keys has improved my life drastically.
I also got one of these to mix up my day

and one of these to try to improve my 3d workflow

but I'm not convinced yet.16 -
A casualty of Windows Update wrecking my machine was the hosts file with the dev domains I added to make my life easier.
It's trivial to add them back as I encounter them, but that's just another little waste of time that Microsoft would be billed for if the world functioned like it should. -
They're foisting copilot onto Windows 11 users through Windows update now.
Awesome
I will never be a willing participant that legal and moral minefield. My work will not willingly be used to train their models.6 -
Microsoft installed an update that I didn't want and now my computer is unable to boot into Windows. It either constantly reboots before the windows logo or sits at attempting repairs forever.
Why is modern computing such a dumpster fire?
Apple is wall to wall garbage in every capacity.
Windows is the most expensive ad delivery platform you can buy, while also trying to be Apple.
Linux doesn't work unless your computer is years old.20 -
I decided to get over my pride and just start paying for assets that I don't have the skill, time, or patience to make myself and I have never been more productive or creatively fruitful.
It frees me up to do the stuff I can do instead of spinning my wheels doing the stuff I wish I could do.3 -
I turned on slow query log just for funsies and was immediately humbled.
Looks like I've got my next sprint lined up.3 -
The absolutely terrible and anti-customer "service" provided by Comcast should be illegal.
My bill went up $25 this month without any warning whatsoever, and all I get is their braindead AI they are training with customer voice data. So I shout jibberish into it until it connects me to a human.
I have actual choices where I live, so I'm going to cancel. -
Do you want to use text to speech huh? Ha ha ha here’s a low battery pop up to completely derail what you were saying and make you repeat the last 10 seconds.
an actual good design would have waited until the text to speech function was complete to pop up the message or at least don’t stop recording what’s being said. But I guess I don’t understand innovation.
Think different indeed12 -
Well, apples terrible keyboard is back after a short hiatus. It worked almost flawlessly for ONE update, but it's now back to its terrible illogical awful nonsense.2

The combination of an AIO cooler and liquid metal heatsink paste and a processor that isn't broken has really done wonders for my productivity.
An unexpected side effect of having a machine that can operate under load without instantly blue screening or crashing is that the room it is in turns into an oven pretty quickly. -
If you have a 13900k and you have random BSODs and application crashes, use XTU and turn down your P-Cores in Performance Per Core Turning to 54x. There is some kind of bug in the turbo boost and going past the 5.4GHZ mark just doesn't work.
I've basically built this computer twice now. I replaced the motherboard because I destroyed it, replaced the RAM because I thought I had the wrong type, and now the processor which was the actual root of all my problems.4 -
I decided to do a daily Blender render just as a creative challenge for myself. I was so excited because I built an awesome computer this year and was eager to put it to use, only to be hit with seemingly random BSODs and crashes a couple seconds into the render.
As it turns out, my CPU cooler is woefully inadequate to handle 32 threads running at once, which was the cause of my crashes. Turning the render threads down to 8 keeps the temps low enough to finish the render.
In a way, it's a relief because the alternative was a problem with my $900 GPU. I've ordered a bigger CPU cooler and well reviewed heatsink paste which will hopefully fix it. If not, I'm going to have to go water-cooled, which I really don't want to do.34 -
Handshakes are not contests. You successfully grinding my knuckles to dust doesn't mean you won or that I'm a dead fish. It means I didn't want to injure you the first time we meet.7

IOS keyboard is utter garbage. IOS as a whole is utter garbage, but the keyboard is the cream of the crop of garbage.
Wasting a user's time and destroying/changing the user's input against their wishes is malicious design of the highest order and this dumpster fire excels in it.
Type something completely valid and autocomplete changes it to something that doesn't makes sense. It not only gives you a terrible suggestion half the time, it will also change previous parts of the sentence that it somehow allowed you to keep. If you reject its suggestion, it deletes your current word and previous word(s), instead of restoring it to what it was before it made the terrible suggestion, like every other keyboard does.
Need to go back and adjust your sentence? If you tap it will hijack the cursor and highlight the nearest word it doesn't like instead of moving the cursor where you touch. If you accidentally hit a character on the cramped and unusable keyboard, congrats, you get to type the word again.
I know about hold space to drag the cursor.
I don't want Apple to decide for me that I actually wanted to go to the closest word it doesn't like, or the current word, or the next word based on a dice roll. I want the cursor to go where I tap. Like literally every other input device functions.
Want readily accessible numbers and punctuation? lol no
I know there's gboard, but compared to Android it's also almost unusable. This leads me to believe the keyboard is little more than a skin over the IOS keyboard engine, like Safari, another IOS dumpster fire. But, it is slightly better than the stock keyboard, which isn't saying much.
I yearn, minute by minute, for the time I can ditch this dumpster fire for a real phone.11 -
3 hours of missed texts and emails and notification.
3 hours.
If the iPhone can't function as a phone after it connects to a samba share, then maybe they shouldn't include that option.
Try telling people that you're not actually ignoring them and that it's this precious pile of garbage that people only like because the TV tells them to.5 -
Today I discovered that Betheme for Wordpress stores data base64 encoded in the database. Meaning you can't just do a search replace when you migrate a site to a different domain. That combined with Chrome based browsers not loading mixed security assets, but Firefox (the browser I use) does, makes for a confusing trouble ticket.
You have to change the setting to serialize sanely, then go into every post and save to update the stored data. Fortunately, the site is new so I only had one page to update, but I can't imagine the headache an established site would be to migrate.3 -
Why, why, why is the default choice for the iOS autocomplete "inn" and not "in".
Others:
doo instead of do
ave instead of and
umm instead of I'm
A thousand other stupid defaults instead of the more likely word
Ort instead of it
18 months of this. I'm going crazy. It makes even the most basic communication take 10x as long23 -
The iPhone is only good for consuming apps, that's it. If you want to use it for anything else, good luck.
Its keyboard is miserable.
Its browser is the new IE.
If you connect to a share folder, at random you lose all networking and you have to restart the phone.
You don't reliably get notifications so good luck explaining to your boss or client or girlfriend why you didn't reply back for hours.
Once the battery permanently dies, you're just expected to spend another $1k for the privilege of this suffering.
It took over 25 edits to get to this point in the message. I had to restart this status symbol 3 times in the last 24 hours in order to restore its ability to communicate. It is agony to use this substandard pile of garbage and it has objectively made my quality of life worse in the 18 months I've had it.
It's an iphone 12. I bought it new from the store. I thought Apple only intentionally made older phones unusable through updates, but this has been unusable since the beginning.19 -
Windows bluetooth audio is nigh unusable.
It is not unrealistic to believe that someone may walk out of range of their bluetooth connection, causing the computer to lose connection with the device. But for Windows, it's as if I had committed an act of negligent malice. I sometimes have to fiddle with my audio settings for a minute or two before I can make it work again.
There is a half second delay before the audio is actually sent to the device if there hasn't been any audio playing for 3-4 seconds, making listening to albums unpleasant. There is no reliable way to turn off bluetooth power saving. The best you can do is play a silent mp3 in the background at all times to trick the OS into treating your bluetooth device like it belongs.
And sometimes bluetooth audio just stutters and cuts out at random until you restart your computer.5 -
No I will not use Facebook to schedule an appointment.
If you're unwilling to answer the phone and do it yourself, I'm more than willing to take my business elsewhere.3 -
When trying to log into a financial site and it tells you your credentials are incorrect, when they aren't, all because you are using something other than Chrome or Safari is a new low.5

Today, I fell for a prank that someone tried to pull on me several years ago that I was too smart for at the time.
I was told that it was impossible to crush an egg with one hand. I knew that was nonsense so I never tried. This morning I was feeling adventurous so I tried it.
As it turns out, it is definitely possible to crush and egg with one hand and that when an egg pops, its contents get all over everything.5 -
Lord help me, I think I might be getting into keyboard modding.
All I really wanted to do was repair the keyboard I've used for the last 10 years. I didn't realize there was a whole hobby surrounding it.6 -
I have been waiting on a data file for days now and when I finally got my hands on it I discover that excel converted the IDs into scientific notation when they exported it.
Thank you, Microsoft, for yet another delay in my work.12
