Redders9576yPhones only really do one thing at once, once you switch apps most of their state is going to get saved back to storage, isn't it?
-
Redders9576yAlthough I have been running Ubuntu on my s8, once I play with that a bit more I imagine I'll be pushing the hardware a little.

- I have 1.2GB RAM used of 2GB
Yep who needs 4GB on a phone 🤷♂️ -
I usually have about 40+ apps open which consumes about 4gb of ram... (my phone has 6)
-
lxmcf204166yAgree. Have the pixel 2 xl which has 3 or 4 (not entirely sure) and I never run into memory issues, always close my apps anyway and only ever have 2-3 open at a time.
I think it's just a pissing contest -
C0D4681976y@irene how’s it horrible?
I’d rather it utilise the resources necessary for what I’m doing and use swap space I’m not using anyway, then have to close all the background apps just to be able to check the time. -
I've also seen that on Android I'm always using 70% RAM. Be it 2 GB, 3 GB, or 4GB, it always has 30% free RAM.
-
Parzi88456y@C0D4 most of those are either on swap or completely killed, not open, and are quick-links only.
-
Parzi88456yI'm on a 2GB system but it has a lot of swap (something like 12GB). Good? Not really, since it's slow as balls. This thing's NAND is fucking SLOW, combined with other issues (that only I'm experiencing on unmodified rom? The slow NAND isn't just me, everything else seems to be though.) Combine that with any app that leaks memory and it slows to the point I can't input my pattern to unlock it before the 10 MINUTE screen timeout occurs. I have to restart it (not a hard restart, normal restart/poweroff menu is always unaffected by slowdown) every like 16 hours or so. I think 4GB is the sweet spot, with 8GB being a luxury (8GB is enough to run a Win2k/XP VM on with Limbo and have plenty left, if it remains stable on the old-af version of QEMU they use in their bleeding-edge or release APKs on their site, that is (the version on the Play Store is a fucking joke, it's so old))
What was I on about again? -
Parzi88456y@irene "Android System", aka the fucking app hypervisor and system manager. Oh, and my modded YouTube app.
-
Parzi88456y@electrineer Yeah, and apps go there too.
As for why, I'm on stock ROM. Ask Huawei, dunno why this one's fucked. Usually they're good at partitioning. -
Parzi88456y@electrineer Ascend XT². Others don't have that big of swap either. This is why i'm scrambling for root and bootloader unlock so hard.
-
@Parzi I'm still reluctant to accept that you have a swap partition of that size. The numbers on this thread look more reasonable. https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...

More than 3GB ram is useless on android phones. Change my mind.
I bought cheap lg g5. It has 4gb ram (my old phone had 1gb ram). I have opened chrome with 4 tabs, an AAA game, devRant, Instagram, a vpn app, android settings and I'm listening music. There is still free 1,2 gb ram. Also this is not my everyday usage. I use maximum 3 apps at same time.
