    @Krokoklemme which is more social than other networks like facebook, instagram or twitter. Those distance you more from real social activities where whatsapp is more personal so more social

    @Codex404 I think what @Krokoklemme meant is that whatsapp isn't social media but messaging service. At least that's what my first thought was when I saw whatsapp. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    @Charmesal its a messaging medium. Which includes group messaging. I dont see how it is NOT social media.

    @Codex404 I'd say that social media is a platform on which you can share a message with a large group of people without specifically specifying which ones to share or with. Therefore I wouldn't class DM apps as social media.

    @ScriptCoded so facebook is not social media?
  • 1
    @Codex404 Well yes it is. You share it with your friends. I guess I should've been more specific, but sending a text doesn't send it to your whole contact book. Facebook does.

    @ScriptCoded @Codex404
    social media
    noun
    websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking

    social networking
    noun
    the use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to one's own.

    Whatsapp is used to interact with others but not to find people. It's also not used (designed) for creating and sharing content. Yes I can share an image I have created with an individual or group but I could also do so with an old school letter.

    I understand that the line separating whatsapp from social media is getting thinner but there's still a clear difference as of now.

    @ScriptCoded it has that feature though.

    @Charmesal okay, in that case you are right indeed.
