Press start: Before you can do laundry you have to listen to this 5 minute ad. -
C0D4669026yHey, don’t knock it.
The “ding” on your phone telling you your load is done when it’s late at night and the machine is on silent is actually awesome.
Now if only I could get it to start on voice activation 🤔maybe a weekend project there. -
Do laundry from the couch? Hey if my phone can load and unload the washing machine I'm all for it!
-
creadom836yThe best piece of smart home thingies I own is a connected coffee machine. It truly is a blessing waking up to some already made coffee.

h4xx3r16966yI'm guilty of having such washer, but I'm not of using the fucking WiFi, the terms and conditions were creepy as hell 👿
-
Lukaszpg446y@h4xx3r Can you elaborate what was so evil about the terms and conditions? I am curious.
About controlling the washing machine from your couch... yeah, lazy much? It's about 2-5 minutes of not-so-heavy work to load it with laundry and then about 10-15 seconds to set the right program.
The society is becoming more and more reliant on technology to the point that it's really unhealthy. Get-the-fuck-up from your couch and do the laundry and vacuuming (yeah, I'm looking at you, "AI controlled vacuum") yourself. -
h4xx3r16966y@Lukaszpg Third party companies will receive the washing machine data for "analysis" and "user behaviours studies", also "maintenance" data, that I see as "easy kill switch when the washing machine is deemed too old"
-
Lukaszpg446y@h4xx3r And all of this for the glory of consumptionism and capitalism. It's maddening that when buying something that falls into the "IoT" category, we have to study the terms and conditions thoroughly, so we can have some kind of idea what will happen with the data that company collects.

KiDoDa1256yActually I think a notification on completion would be great, like a long distance buzzer it already has. The one thing (among many ;/) I can see a use for connecting to the internet is a toaster...
-
athlon172466yBut, but... If I have to do the laundry, I gotta walk to the washing machine, fill it up and press the button! I think that's faster than walking to it, filling it up, waiting for the app to load, clicking st- *Connection Error*

There is absolutely no reason, what so ever, that you should ever own a fucking Wi-Fi enabled washer and dryer!
Like if you really need to check that your kids haven't done the chores while you're at the grocery store, from your phone, you have some bigger issues. You're basically giving LG the ability to make money off your laundry habits for years and years after your purchase.
