UltimaQ6718yum media server? shove a bigger HDD in it and maybe it could work.
Or maybe a router? Or just an ssh box for random shit? -
Install a lite version of your favorite OS. Or try to make a hackingtosh for the extra challenge. I got snow leopard on an old AMD Athlon from 2004 once.

drRoss49148yIt really depends if you're going to have it powered on all the time. If so, I'd trash it. It'll use too much power and your electricity bill will be £££.

I received an old HP once, 512mb ran 80gb hdd
Installed Ubuntu Server and Plex Media Server onto it. Maybe you can try the same? π -
Redders9578yAll of these uses make more sense with a piΔΊ, and you'll save the cost of a pi within a year through power saving!
-
MaccaMc5538yI agree a Pi would be better, but you could install Kodi ok the pc and use it as a media Centre. Much better on a Pi tho.

julianmd5098yGet bigger storage and make it a NAS. That's what I did with my old one. Now everyone in the house torrents to the same computer, with Gigabit internet and they stream from it like there's no tomorrow.

carc3ri3428yReceived a Google CR-48 from a friend
powered up with a 128gb SSD
installed Manjaro Linux with i3
now it's the perfect tool to study new stuff and develop little projects when i'm laid on my couch -
Redders9578y@arguelloboy no, a nas is any network attached storage, what's storage is the primary function, you're thinking of something like a NetApp?
-
@ThomasRedstone Yeah you are right, NAS is storage solutions, I got confused, thought it was a "MAN" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
My bad :)
So, my uncle gave me an old computer: 1GB of RAM, 1.7GHz dual-core, HDD 80GB, I'm definitely NOT going to trash it, so... What do I do with it? Ideas?
