Today in the train world - no ticket paper at the ticket automats, but money is still taken. This results in the ticket controller having to write my stations on the receipt paper. Is this 21st century Western Europe?

I wouldn't expect working railway in a country where the car lobby writes the laws.

@RustyCookie Yeah, that's some years after Snowden, and SOME people actually value privacy. That's where buying in cash and getting a paper ticket still is valid.

Otherwise, why bother with a vending machine? Just go via the app and pull a ticket on your phone, it's all there.
