Getting tired of my manager saying "That's too long! The people at the companies I've worked at before could do it in nearly half the time!"

Like, what's the point of asking me to quote time if you're just gonna ask me to reduce it anyway?

Went from 7 months (significant overquote, to compensate for this kind of thing), to 5 months (what I actually reckon it'll take), and it's now sat at 3.5 months, which is my manager's original quote

It's also a field that's not my forte (I'm technically a backend dev, followed by Android dev, followed by ops, followed by web dev...and this is a web dev project lol), and the people I'm being compared to have been doing it for as long as I've been alive haha

I've been in a similar situation. Im working as the lead (only engineer) on a big data project and I've never used any of the technologies before - just started in my career and no big data training. I overestimate the time but it seems to take even longer. I always think that they have a more realistic expectation than me even though they might underestimate it.

I have worked on another project that I knew the exact time it would take - estimated two weeks - and was asked if I could do it in half of the time. I love when that happens. I really want to say, "half of the time was for me to rest"

You should tell him the manager at your last company was more competent therefore he should be able to do the same
