Fuck Microsoft. I recently deleted the last remaining Microsoft installation in my life and I'm looking forward to my future without it. Still got some work to do to get some of my favorite games up and running in Linux, but I still don't regret it.

    Caps lock?

I had similar problems with windoze login as well.

btw I'm not seeing any "well, it's your fault for not updating often" troll comment, weird...

@erandria Seems like devRant community is less toxic than other sites like Reddit.

It's a fucked credentials database. Don't ask me how it happens, but it happens.
Had cases where I had to whop out some live system that's able to edit those passwords offline. In some cases setting a new pw doesn't help, what helps tho, is setting the password to 'empty' (NULL). You'll still get a prompt, but clicking ok will log you in. You can then carry on setting a new password 🤷🏻‍♀️

@cptstickypants oh that's true, but there are comments like that sometimes here...

@cptstickypants it can be just as toxic. There is a fuckload of tech wars here.

@HampusMa I dualboot Antergos... But: "[firmware bug] The ACPI region does not cover the " prevents me from booting it more than once :-/ (acpi off is not a sopution as that reduces the battery life drastically and disables the dedicated gpu)

@Quirinus this or accidentally changed the keyboard layout. Happes way to often for
  • 0
@fuckwit nope, num lock chcecked, caps lock checked, keyboard layout checked

@theKarlisK there is the eye icon in the input filed you can click to see what you typed, I always check it, I do NOT just assume I pressed the right keys so therefore I typed right

    @theKarlisK @bytecode
    Also networking obstructs login mechanism.
Ensure being online via eth, not WiFi.
Avoid docking stations lately, as they bug around as hell.
Please check your chips status, too. Whether ms win does support its architecture by latest measures/updates. MS might wanna fuck around for enforcing upgrade.

@scor the laptop is 1 year old MSI GL62M 7REX without any possibility of connecting to any docking station... connected using a cat6 f/utp to 1 gigabit guaranteed connection (10gigabit runs to the closest switch, connected to the backbone via CESNET)...

please stop giving suggestions people, I already solved it by rebooting, disabling TPM, booting to Windows, rebooting again, enabling TPM, booting to Windows and changing my password online in the meantime

@Mokalottay Unfortunately IntelliJ IDEA does not play well with any Linux distro I tried... and playing games on Windows is simpler than trying to get Wine behaving how you want it to behave

@Kimmax This; I've had it happen before. Didn't know about the blank password workaround, though!

@bytecode great problem solving skills. It looks like swearing and ranting helped a lot too...

Check your computer clock. Kerberos can be very picky about time difference. Your computer might be 1 year old but the cmos battery on the motherboard can be older.

@Floydian if you scroll up you can see that's almost what I did, and it worked 😂

+1 rants like this are why I joined devRant
  • 1
@unsignedint yea... pretty rare nowadays but they were really common when I joined
