Parents: get off that computer it will get you nowhere in life!
Me:But im programming not playing games..I want to become a programmer...
Parents:programming or games it's all the same! Take an example of your sister who actually achieved something with her studies (she's a doctor)
Me today asa computer engineer...receiving paycheck higher than my sister who is a doctor and not to mention I got a car of the company and living very comfortably.
Parents can't believe it.

Moral of the story: never let anyone tell you what to do. Keep doing what you truly love and get real good at it!😉13 -
Two minutes of silence to all Microsoft employees who were looking to switch jobs through Linkedin. 😂😂1

Microsoft is now a member of the Linux Foundation.
While the dev community makes OS wars, the company and the foundation is making love. Take them as role models.9 -
Just saw a microsoft ad saying:
“Six reasons for switching to SQL Server on Linux“
Well done microsoft...7 -
Overheard in a Microsoft DevCamp:
A: I got Bad Request on this page
B: Use the Edge browser
A: OK. It works now9 -
For my passionate coders out here, I have some tips I learned over the years in a business/IT environment.
1) Don't let stupid management force you into making decisions that will provide a bad product. Tell them your opinion and why you should do it that way. Never just go with their decision.
2)F@#k hackathons, you're basicly coding software for free, that the company might use. Want to probe yourself? Join a community and participate in their challenges.
3)No matter how good you are, haters are common.
4)Learn to have a good communication, some keywords are important to express yourself to other developers or customers. Try crazy things, don't be shy.
5)Never stand still, go hear at other companies what they offer, compare and choose your best fit. This leads me into point...
6)if you've been working for over a year and feel that you have participated enough in the companies growth, ask a raise, don't be afraid...you're wanted on the market, so either they negotiate a new contract or you find another job.
I'm sharing these with you as I made many mistakes regarding these points, I have coded for free or invested so much time in a company just to prove myself. But at the end I realize that my portfolio is enough to prove that I'm capable of doing the job. They don't like me? Or ask me stupid questions that I can google in 5 minutes. I'll just decline the job and get something better. Companies end up giving me nothing in return compared to the work I have put into it. At the end after some struggles you'll find a good fit and that's so important for your programming career. Burnouts happen quite often if you're just a coding puppy.
If some of you still have additional tips be sure to post them under here11 -
Uhhh, ok. Screw you Microsoft!
Really wish I could go all Linux..... 😑

My love towards Microsoft:
When install Windows 10, world's most advanced operating system, I agree to use express installation to make sure I am sharing all the information with Microsoft.
Right after installation, I chose Microsoft Edge as my default browser. Can't live without it really. I also make sure my search engine is set to Bing!
Then I continue to setup Cortana and share all my personal information with her. I install office 365 to to work with my documents and use skype to chat with my friends.
Then I install Visual studio and set all my projects to Windows Application only. I mean who uses any OS other than Windows?
It doesn't finish there. Groove Player is my first choice for listening to music, Film and TV for my videos and etc.
I also always use Microsoft Maps to find my way to work!

The problem with me programming lately :
Mom: foooood is ready...
Me: Will be there in a minute. (deep inside I know that's a lie).
5 minutes later...⏰
Mom: food is getting cold!
Me: Yes I'm coming, testing one last thing...I swear !
30 min later I'll join the table...The guilt 😩 I'm sorry mommy 🙏
Anybody else with the same problem? 😅9 -
Boyz, I don't feel like Windows 10 is collecting enough information from me. What can I do about this? I want to give everything to Microsoft <311

Just had chat with Microsoft support to solve a issue. I accepted remote session request. She did something and couldn't find proper a solution to my problem. Finally, she told a temporary solution and quit the chat.
When I was about to give feedback that she wasn't helpful, SHE CLOSED FEEDBACK WINDOW and then ended remote session. Lmao4 -

Another "microsoft is actually trying" post, excited how it turns out
source: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/...11 -
I’m reluctant to comment on the github / Microsoft thing because to be honest, the way a lot of people are reacting to it is just completely retarded, and it’s had far too much airtime.
Anyway... if you’re gonna leave GitHub because they’ve been acquired by Microsoft, then just shut up and leave. No one gives a fuck. Least of all anyone at Microsoft, because you’re probably not paying for anything there anyway.
Just fucking go to bitbucket or gitlab already... however I bet the vast majority don’t end up leaving.4 -
So, in my terminal I have ctrl+shft+c for copy. I obviously use this quite a bit and have gotten pretty used to accidentally opening devtools in chrome.
Well, in Microsoft teams apparently ctrl+shft+c calls everyone in chat, even if you immediately hang up everyone still has call and they all chat with each other wondering who initiated call I guess.
I was in general chat and went to copy something and initiated a company wide call accidentally. Oops.8 -
That moment when you search for Microsoft documentation and realize there is none, so you go search for source code and realize there isn't any of that either. 😑5
-
I miss the days I actually enjoyed playing games.
6 years of programming later...
I'm always wondering how did they make the game? Once I find out how, I lose interest in the game.
I spend more time reverse engineering/exploiting/modifying the Client of games than actually playing them, more out of curiosity than causing harm.
Am I evil? 😫5 -
Dear Developers at Microsoft,
Why the FUCK does windows try to update EVERY TIME I boot my VM even though it fails EVERY FUCKING TIME? Can't it fucking learn that it's fucking broken and doesn't work? No? OK...7 -
Dear people who think Microsoft buying GitHub is fine because Microsoft is more supportive of open source than before.
Here's the facts.
1) Microsoft is a large tech company investing in many things. That's a fact.
2) If Microsoft were to exploit GitHub, it would be a benefit to other departments in Microsoft. This is also a fact.
(For example, if tomorrow GitHub was tied to azure or some annoying shit like that.)
3) If such exploitation occurs, it will most likely be to the detriment of the free community of developers. This is a highly probable outcome.
4) The only question now is this.
"Does Microsoft care about open source enough to cut down on potential profit."
The answer of any sane, unbiased individual had to be no.
This is why people leave GitHub today. It is NOT because some childish hatred for Microsoft. In fact, I would've personally moved out of GitHub if "any" other large tech company had bought it, thereby compromising it's neutrality.

So what if Microsoft acquired GitHub
As long as they dont actively try to make it user hostile i have no problem with it
Microsoft is a big contributor to open source as of lately so there is a chance that this acquisition is a sign that they might be open sourcing more of their stuff
Microsoft also is a huge contributor to linux foundation
Avoiding github because “Microsoft is eeeeeviiiiiiillllll big company with closed source stuff” etc just seems a little bit like overreacting
If they do actively do something to make github worse in the future, ofc i will jump ships
However i dont think that they can afford to alienate the userbase of a expensive acquisition by making something stupid14 -
Microsoft is releasing a first Visual Studio for Mac preview and is also joining the Linix foundation. Good to see Microsoft finally serious about the opensource community.5

Finally after a couple of years, we finally finished our game for... Windows phone. When we started the only real choice was to develop in silverlight.
Now silverlight has been discontinued and microsoft released uwp, no real help to convert to uwp (I know mobilize bridge exists, but it is not very good) since many features does not exist yet in uwp :/
But hey that's expected right? But couldn't microsoft at least ensure performance of silverlight apps on win10 mobile??? We have used a lot of time optimizing that the game runs smoothly on crap phones on wp8.1, but highend phones on win10 lags....
Thanks microsoft for taking a change :/4 -

With all M$ buying GitHub thing i really hope some good things will come out of it like:
- Better version control inside Visual Studio.
- Microsoft making its projects more open source, since it now has an official platform for itself.
- Faster and better service from GitHub since there is now a much bigger budget for servers and other things.
But there are some things that i think are worth thinking about:
- Will this be another one of Microsoft's paid services?
- Will there be "intergration" into the Office apps along Skype, Word and others?
- Will the privacy policy change?
Most likely, none of the bad things happen but me being paranoid as i am, I'd prepare. I always try to be optimistic and just ignore it for now until Microsoft start doing things.1 -
Microsoft seems to get progressively worse every year. My work transitioned from google products (email, drive, chat) to Microsoft & it was a humungous step backwards. Everything crashes & doesn't save. Edge sucks. Windows 10 sucks. IE always sucked. Office 365 sucks. One drive sucks. MS Teams sucks. 😑9

Documenting. Starting Microsoft Word to fill in a preconfigured template. It contains two numbered lists, but the numbering incorrectly continues from the first list to the second. I'm one of *those* developers that sold their soul to Microsoft technology stack early in their career, and then bought in into even more narrow specialization, SharePoint dev (Could easily have been Dynamics or similar) ...

i hate windows errors so much

Am I the only one seeing a tendency of a few big companies (Microsoft, Apple, Google, Yandex, Tencent and 10-15 more) slowly (or not so slowly) acquiring more and more small companies? I hope however that it stays as transparent to the end user; I also hope it even helps, because I hate getting used to a product/service and then the company dropping it because they have no resource and/or interest in supporting it (Google Inbox anyone?)6 -
How is it possible that Microsoft Office and Open Office have less portability issues then Microsoft Office on Windows vs. Microsoft Office on Mac? It's supposed to be the same f*king programm developed by the same company! <.<2
-
This is odd for me to say this.. but Microsoft is kind of impressing me right now. I haven’t had many issues, and kind of testing out visual studio team services and liking what I’m seeing. Started out with VS code at work and here I am using it on small projects at home and seeing what else MS has to offer. Granted I’m still using my linux boot more but it’s been 8 days since my Win10 partition hasn’t crashed and that’s 8 days longer than when I first got this computer a few months ago when it was crashing hourly even after a fresh install and updates.

OK, I'm spoiled Linux bra^H^H^Huser, so MD5, SHA1,... checksums for distributions' ISO files are something I take for granted but is really that hard for Microsoft to provide same for Windows 10 ISOs (plain and simple info, not something that require equilibristics and deep diving into MSDN site) ?!2

I forgive Microsoft for all the bugs on W10. Why? Because Cortana on Android mirror notifications from phone to PC smoothly. Saving so much time. And I get to know if I miss calls or messages. Brilliant.6

Some people hate microsoft edge so much, even they only use it to download a browser. In fact i do that too. But then i download .pub file and its default application is edge. I guess edge now has a plus value. Since firefox does not support epub natively.

I usually hate Microsoft but they've gotten me positively surprised several times lately. I can run an SSH server and Redis just like that!

I'm trying to move a backup User folder from a dead Windows computer over to cloud storage. In checking the size of the folder before compressing it, it shows as 1.08GB, which I guessed would be reasonable. So I zipped it and it came out to be 48GB!! Compressed to 75%! So I went one folder deeper and checked the properties of all files there. That came out to be much larger than 1.08GB. Thinking Windows has some problem revealing the true size of a parent folder and its content, I did a Google search. Sure enough, it's a bug where incorrect folder size is reported. What the heck is going on at Microsoft that this blatant of a bug would ever have a chance of getting into the code? And why is this single user at 48 GB _compressed_? I'd understand if the user was a photographer, but he's just a gamer, and these aren't applications, just save files and profile settings!
