*Keyboard breaks*
*Calls Desktop Support*
Me: Hey, my keyboard is broken. I want to replace it.

*Support guy sends new keyboard*
*Calls support again*
Me: Hey, the shift key on the left side of the new keyboard is broken.

I don't know who came up with this keyboard design, but that person really wanted to see developers who write in camel case suffer while their muscle memory adapts.

    That's why everyone write snake_case! Never got it...

    I don't get it. What's wrong with it?

    @electronix
    Shift keys on the left-hand side are generally larger.
    Due to this sudden change, I keep fat fingering the pipe operator key.

    You'd need homing missile like precision to hit that small of a shift key!
    It's painful if your coding style tends to be camel case.

    Hence, the keyboard is broken :)

    ‘New’, well it was in the 80s.

    @Nanos I like how a slight orientation change to the keyboard cripples us devs.

    @Nanos That's why there are programmable keyboards so that you can have a layer with the Win key do something else or do nothing at all, or, for little children that can't do it themselves, a special, pre-chewed "Win lock" function.

    My Mac keyboard looks exactly like that 🤷

    Strange layout. Not English, not Spanish, not latinoamerican

    @LuxARTS It looks like ISO, and besides English ISO-UK, there's DE, NOR layouts and a few others.

    Ah, I see. You learn something new everyday! Thanks!

    Is it your HP keyboard?

    @Jay-Kadam
    Yup, it's an HP one.

    @Nanos They wouldn't need to open the box if it's properly labeled - for keyboards that have both ISO and ANSI variants, it should be denoted in some way on the packaging (i.e. part of the part number).

    *looks down*

    Oh shit

    @12bitfloat If this hasn't bothered you until now, there's no reason for it to bother you. Plus, the Enter key is large (in ANSI it's just a horizontal 2.25 U key - like the Backspace, just slightly longer).

    That's where the backslash goes in CIVILISED COUNTRIES /s
