TimoHo446yit's actually pretty hard to destroy if you use your brain before running sudo rm -rf /

b3b340666yDestroying your linux is quite difficult imho. But ubuntu destroyed itself too on my pc. So I ended up using void linux. Its pretty stable, only had problems back a year ago because of conflicting versions of some packages and I was too stupid to relsolve them

fuzzyT1966yWrong screen 🤔
I know people like to say it's hard to really, really break a Linux system. But actually it is pretty damn easy to end up at a point where everything seems to be fucked up, your stuck in console and you don't know the right cli voodoo to get things in order again. -
I would say the real factor is how much time it takes to get it working again. Considering that I can have most distros reinstalled in like 20 minutes with a basic dev setup in place (hooray for SSDs, git, Docker, and build locks), I would be an idiot if fixing stuff takes more than 20 minutes or so.
Of course that number varies, but yeah.
@Froot heavily dependent on distro and competence of user, something like CentOS or Debian paired with Docker or good file and config management would make it an absolutely rock solid environment, by going for Arch or whatever you voluntarily give up on stability. -
I posted that for those who keep messing around with their linux system, by trying out new DE's or trying to do something which they really don't understand.
-
Parzi86696y@ishank-dev DEs wouldn't really bork the whole OS (excluding Arch, but Arch is literally "how long till pacman or the DE wipes the drive?: the OS", so)

I like the idea of Linux, have used Linux but don't find it any more useful than my windows box or Mac os.
-
Teknas22746yIt's quite easy to fuck up the GUI tho.
Have done this multiple times.
And I was too noob at the time to fix the system using cli. -
gymboi06yLol happens with me all the time
Timeshift saves me by restoring everything back to how it was:)
Something that most linux users are tired of seeing...
Reinstalling their os again after messing it up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
