Hi guys, I just wanted to share some footage of my upcoming Space Game - STRIFE - Battle for the Southern Star.

Super happy with what I have been able to achieve in just 2 months of development. Demo coming really soon.

    Looks pretty fun, and graphics are tight. Why all of the spinning?
  • 2
    @fire-phoenix it's a dodge mechanic. What don't you like about it? Give me something to work with.
  • 2
    @pretzlerich Looks like fun.

    I wondered about the spinning, too. It doesn't appear to have any reason.
  • 3
    @sbiewald it basically turns off collisions allowing the player to dodge incoming missiles. Maybe I spam it a bit too much in the video. I could perhaps add a cool down.

    Looks neat. Just, make sure the name is OK. I remember that there already is a game called STRIFE but its an FPS.
  • 2
    @pretzlerich Yeah! It seemed like the spinning was used excessively without a purpose. If you add missiles attacking you and you use the spin to actually dodge the missiles, then it should show off the mechanic as it is intended.

    @fire-phoenix all will be explained in the tutorial. So what don't you actually like about it other than not knowing what it does?
  • 1
    @pretzlerich I already answered that. I said that it is excessive.

    Pretty impressive! Keep it up

    @pretzlerich @fire-phoenix ok. No need to down vote my comment over it. I just wanted constructive feedback other than "I don't like it". Based on yours and others feedback I will add a cool down to this. Thanks for the comments

    @dUcKtYpEd thanks. I took a lot of inspiration from starfox

    I want to play this right now, that's how good it looks. Outstanding job!
    The spinning confused me as well, sounds like this'll become a good game mechanics. Say, why did you choose spinning over flares (e.g. like in Freelancer)?
    One thing I'd replace is the Quake 3-ish announcer. While I hate the voice and at some point it just commented too often imho, my main concern is it breaks immersion. This could be replaced with radio calls.

    @pretzlerich I downvoted that comment. And you know why

    @pretzlerich good. Nobody likes Drama

    It looks fun, and impressive for only two months! Kudos!

    You should make a better trailer that shows off the specific features and aspects of gameplay. That and a playable demo would likely be enough to start crowdfunding further development.

    Video criticisms: spinning habit, repetitive video, chatty but repetitive npcs, doesn't show anything but dogfighting. Needs variation and progression.

    Video praises: good graphics, good handling, good camera, looks fun, environment interaction (I assume), great hud.

    Keep up the great work!

    @pretzlerich Wow, I just asked why the excessive spinning. Read my comments literally, and don't get defensive over nothing.

    @fire-phoenix sorry I didn't mean to come across in a negative way. Thanks for sharing your feedback

    @pretzlerich you're welcome.
    I'm still wondering why spinning* over something else. Not saying you should change any of that, just interested in the reasoning. :)

    (*) I know, I know, "spinning is so much cooler than not spinning" as per https://youtube.com/watch/... at 3:08 but still...
