jonii25245yWtf. I'm pretty sure most just google your name and lookup your fb and linked in/xing.
Also what do you expect them to find in db leaks, like, your password to your myspace account? -
SirVicco2395yThose are military accreditations researches !
I hope no employer is mad enough to spy on you like this.
Tbh I don't know. -
vane110545yThere is some software that spy on you but I don’t know how effective it is besides scrapping cv and looking for linkedin, github account or personal webpage.
I never got access to one that got more functionality that I described. -
@jonii Just any information that truly reveals who you really are.
A very extreme example:
Let us say that you use the same username on multiple websites. Once they know your username they can search all your rants on devrant. If they see you made 100 shitposts about your previous employer this could potentially lower your chances.
They could also potentially find everything you ever posted on the internet.
To be honest I have absolutely no idea how far some employers will go. That is why I am asking.
Thank you for your input! -
Hazarth94875yI hope they don't, or rather maybe they do out of basic human curiosity, but probably not as a standard. But just to be safe, I also google my name from time to time make sure nothing can really be linked to my real name or that my online nicknames don't link me to my other profiles either. Call me paranoid, but if an employer wants to look me up he can suck a dick
-
I made a website with a pretty nice tech project under my real name exactly for employers to find when they google.
Otherwise, I'm not on FB, Twitter etc. because there's nothing I'd be interested in. For forums and also devRant, I don't use my real name, and even different nicks for different platforms. -
C0D4669445y@curiousity one hides their online presence.
My name is not C0D4 😅
My website linked to devRant, is purely for devRant, my github linked... you get the idea.
C0D4 could be anyone, well probably not, I have a skill set that stands out enough to be found by the right people.
You would have to either know me, or know where I work to identify me in the Real World.
At best people will look for you on LinkedIn, potentially GitHub / GitLab if you supplied the details, as for Facebook / Twitter, they may do searches for your name but if you can't be found easily they'll skip them.
You're CV is almost always where people will stop, unless it contains something interesting to get them to keep looking. -
One of my latest interviewers just googled me but I (real life identity and data) hardly have anything identifying online and don't use social media except for devRant so they came up empty.
No clue as for other companies, though!

I am not sure if devrant is the best place to post this so sorry if it is not.
How far do employers/recruiters go when searching online information about their applicants?
Do they simply check your fb? simple google search your name? advanced queries with multiple search engines? data gathering software like maltego? or really check and link leaked db dumps and pastebins?
If anyone has any knowledge or experience with this I would love to hear.
Thanks in advance
