@RantSomeWhere I once was in an ICE in winter, and the heating broke down. It was fucking cold, so they served hot drinks for free.
Well I got my wool blanket and was fine. Staff asked my how it came I had a wool blanket. I answered I was a frequent customer. Haha! -
@RantSomeWhere I only travel ICE first class to avoid the scum. Actually, I'm the scum there so that I don't have to worry about other scum. ^^

Ansis955yI was on a work trip and had to ride DB to get anywhere.
The system is sooo weird. So I get that you buy a ticket at the machine. Then you activate it... Before climbing into the train? How is it checked afterwards? Is it just a 1/100 chance that police will climb in at a stop?
There was also some kind of 2-story train which I had to take. To get a ticket I had to buy it at the helpdesk, which had a numbered queue. Why? Can there not be machines or multiple desks or something? I was praying to god that I don't miss the train because of this waiting.
Gotta thank Google Maps for saving my ass on this trip, without it I would've definitely gotten on the train to Spain or something. -
@Ansis With DB, you don't have to activate the ticket that a vending machine spits out. It may be different with special offers like rail passes or so.
Police isn't on trains except when they commute - and usually, they travel for free if they wear uniform. It's train staff who checks the tickets. Not having one costs 60 EUR and is a minor criminal offence in Germany.
