    Although in some cases, people overreact about regex + html.

    "Any possible valid html" is not feasible to process with regex, but "regular" html can be regexed — for example if you have a directory with 6 million html-formatted invoices, and you know what kind of code generated those invoices, regex can be used just fine. At that point your html-subset is not irregular anymore.
