@Codex404 good luck without history graph, terminal only goes so far for me, but you're welcome to literally type on a keyboard made out of nails too, I prefer to type on smooth keys. lol
-
@Codex404 nowhere near the experience of a proper custom listview for a history graph, even with CLI hacks to make it scrollable
-
@Tyan I'd need something that works both on windows and linux, tried gitahead and just like sublime merge "almost there" but missing things here and there, e.g. being able to switch to folder view for changes, fork I saw too, but sadly only win/mac just like sourcetree. (which looks exactly the same, as if sourcetree was a fork of "fork" lol)

@git-gud can you please link up what you mean?.. or do you mean those in vsCode/Atom/..?
@Minion does not look like it can do branch graphs in the history
@gathurian I'll have to take a closer look, can't tell much from the screenshots, thanks
@heyheni 30 bucks or more a year, not the end of the world, but all software licenses seem to stack up -
@JoshBent as for a lack of good alternatives and it helps you to make money. I would totally pay those 30 bucks.
-
@heyheni absolutely, but I just wanted to cut down on what is essentially now stacking up to like 2-3k (or more?..) for licenses a year.
I am checking for alternatives for the rest too, though those are so custom, I doubt I'll find an alternative or without spending time I don't want on making my own. haha -
@millenialdev thanks, but I've hit that one before and somebody also suggested it here - but it is windows/mac only, I need windows+linux :)
-
leon31031565y@JoshBent why should you pay money for good software? I mean you don’t get payed either right?
-
@M1sf3t doubt I could use it as local git cloning and stuff or generally a git gui, but I've noted it as possibly as an alternative to some other services.
@leon3103 I do in fact get paid for using these tools, because I am a freelancer, I do have some fund always at the side for exactly those reasons, but the estimate of like thousands does sound expensive after a while. -
@leon3103 and yeah as @M1sf3t mentioned, I appreciate every single software I pay for, because simply of how much time and effort it saves me, though it simply stacks for me, some of them seem to rely purely on the user base as cash cows too, as some features are charged extra, even though they aren't much more to implement, nor use server resources.
-
@M1sf3t oh globoards I don't even use, I've got trello for that haha, globoards came very much later than trello anyway :)
Since gitkraken is turning into such a bitch, I've searched for alternatives once again, as usual none of the competitors still implemented a fraction of it, after so much time.
Sublime Merge looked promising, but then half the time fucks the history graph, fails to remove remotes and more funny stuff I don't want to mess with.
Github Desktop I didn't even try because it didn't seem to have any proper history graph to begin with.
For now ended up on sourcetree, though I really do miss having commit message and description be two separate inputs, have done the most basic merge for now, so it's a to be continued experience.
Mostly afraid of how it'll show merge conflicts and commit view, as from what I gathered it doesn't fullscreen when you click a commit, but instead shows an awkward small screen at the bottom of the graph split further in half with the avatar and commit message.
Edit: oh for fucks sake, just noticed it doesn't even have linux support, god damn it.
