Do you have a programmers union in your country?
In my country we have a general union for all different kinds of jobs and a engineers union. Maybe if developers had a dev union there would perhaps be less bs

    False. Unions dont stop bs, they just make you pay for it while waiting for a new job.

    What kind of BS do you thing it would prevent?

    In my experience, unions just cause tension in the company. Company leadership tends to be more apt to fire your a$$ for minor offenses, seemingly just to stick it to the union.

    @Root I'm loving these downvotes.
    So many notifications for that comment, and it's still at +2. 🙄

    @Root looks like some union rep found this post and got their panties in a wad. Did I mention that most union reps that I have met were the bullies in high school. Lol

    @bradshaw15r The union rep at one of my previous jobs was super friendly to everyone in the union, and outright ignored non-members. Like she would literally ignore you, right to your face, both in private and in front of others. If you weren't in the union, you didn't exist. She would only react if you stepped in front of her and refused to let her by.

    I think unions on paper are a great thing. They keep companies from abusing their employees and help to improve the working conditions.

    However, that's on paper. There are a lot of good union systems like in the education field. In many others, the union heads are not trying to protect the workers, but be a force against the company whenever possible. They discriminate against those that don't share their ideals and bully union members to behave in a certain way, not because the member believes it's the right thing to do, but because they have no choice.

    That kind of union can go suck a popsicle made from yellow snow.

    Lol here many companies treat programmers as general technicians, calling them to fix their chargers.

    @Techno-Wizard

    In case anyone was wondering, Techno-Wizards outlook is the one I've seen too.

    I fucking hate unions, and they still serve a purpose as a counterbalance to corporate need to reduce labor to a commodity.

    Most employers are shit. Most unions are shit. Most any organization is run by gluttonous and destructive navel gazing sociopaths. Thats how human social hierarchies work. The worst bubble to the top, like turds floating in a bowl.

    Thing is, it's not about the lesser of two evils.

    It's about restraining them by making them compete and suffer at each other's hands, preferably for sport and entertainment.

    This way they're too busy grinding it out against each other instead of grinding down all the regular joes stuck between them like grist in a mill.
