I feel terrible making $3,634/year at my current job in Nigeria with all my skills and experience.
I've applied for jobs in Germany and had a couple of interviews but they fell through.

It's difficult been a software engineer in Nigeria. 😔

@AleCx04 thanks for your comment. I guess I've to spend more time networking than applying and have a plan B to leave the country as well.

What does $3600 a year get you in Nigeria? You may make more in Germany but I bet cost of living is much higher as well.

@spongessuck Yeah. You're right. Can barely get by with the pay. Over here the people you work for thinks you're just playing on a computer while they do real work.

This has to change and I need directions.

I've sought-after gigs on fiverr to augment my income and found it to be saturated.

I understand the cost of living is high in most european countries and those who can sell a product or skill abroad will reap the benefits.

I don't mind collaborating.

I made 1.5k a month here in Haiti (Working for an US company (not directly)), but it's not really enough (have to help the family (mom, sister,...)). But what I do is freelancing on the side (Upwork and a few direct client).
You should focus on being really good and being able to complete a project all by yourself (from defining requirements to deploying) and apply for company like G2I, Toptal or compete on Topcoder.

Local freelancing helped me a lot when I started. I'll be attempting the companies you listed. Though from experience their coding tests can be very hard.

I train on codewars.com in my free time.

See it the other way: We need to make at least >50000(100k with taxes) to live an average live, while you only need to make a tenth of it.

I've made an app which makes about the same amount of money annualy than you do. But since I live in Europe, it's close to worthless. I would need 9 more equally successful products to live from it.

You on the other hand can compete on the very same market, while only needing a single success to live from. Not saying that it's easy at all, but there's huge potential in the global market!
