If you haven't disabled auto-update, Play Store will go ahead and do that. It includes stock apps (and it's mostly good that they gradually moved to that since otherwise, to update a system app, you had to install it manually from the store over the stock one).

You said quite recently that you've never used Google services as much as you're doing right now, so it's taking care of all "that" for you

@kamen auto updates are off. I manually updated 6 apps.

Has the exact same thing happen with my pixel 4 XL, said it had updated 50 updates after I updated Google Chrome .-.

Same thing happened with my tablet. 72 apps updated.

Same, with Android 9+ lots of the OS subsystem are also manage via the App store.

Allows Google to push out system patches for some components without having to wait for vendors to rebuild their custom version.

Happened to me too this morning. It said it updated 70+ apps and when looking on the recently updated ones it were only 19 😂 I guess they have a small bug
