I am really not sure about this, so I wanted to ask, do you guys post online on Medium or Dev.to and how was your experience with your first post? I wanna start doing it, but I've got no clue what to write about. Any suggestions?

Ehm, why do you want write if you have no clue about what you want write? Just because post on medium or dev looks cool and author looks like he know what he doing?

Nope, its nothing but buzz word incompetent devs who don't know shit about the topics they are bloating on about with click bait, call me crazy but it's almost always amateur hour on these platforms.

Also, if you have nothing to write about, why would you consider adding to e pile of nonsense that's already there?

I'd like to but I've got my own blog for that (which I haven't written to in... 1-2 years?)

@linuxxx Talking about your blog... It isn't online anymore?

@RedPolygon Yeah, had to do an emergency migration due to the nginx/php-fpm vuln and haven't come around to fixing that yet... Let me have a look!

@RedPolygon Online again, I think. Could you take a quick look?

I write on medium and honestly I think it has been amazing. They have a great publication and category system, which can help boost your views a lot. My second post ever was a post about let's encrypt, docker and nginx, and it got over 20k views in the first couple of days, because it got picked up by both a publication. I have 3 semi-popular articles, netting me about 10$ a month.

That being said, I think you should start writing when you feel you have something to write about. Medium is like 70-80% bullshit, and there's no need to add to it.

I started like you, just wanting to write because I wanted to write, not because I had something to write about. I have written articles with that mindset, and they have done porely, I'm not proud of them, and honestly I'm thinking about deleting them.

To sum it up: don't focus on writing a lot. Focus on writing something you'll be proud of, and most importantly: something you'd want to read yourself

@C0D4 Yeah true, of course I haven't done it yet because I've got nothing to write and why to add to the bs already there. That's all true. I just wanted to know about your experience with the platforms and if you've written stuff there.

@ArcaneEye Actively working on a new post right now! Not sure when it'll be finished as research is needed :)
