I haven't used php or any language long enough to judge but the quality of the php tutorials available is really bad and outdated which is why it seems repelling.

PHP for president

PHP was the first thing I learned after a little software development in Python. I'd much rather deal with the differences in a dozen browsers than 500million different devices.

PHP is actually great. Especially after using Laravel.
