@heyheni I would just like to know how much you charge for your work.

I am looking for a most general understanding.
Of course it always depends on the project scale and your experience, so I would just like some markers to putbin perspective.

Yeah ok, let me help you guys, for a basic website, with a database behind and no interactive content (only html&CSS), what would you charge per hour?

Another example, how about a website with interactive charts or with more complex interactive features?

I mean the more complex the project the longer it will take, so it doesn't really matter for the hourly wage anyways. All that really matters is how effective your work is and that is usually estimated by experience and previous projects.

So how much would you charge as a developer with X experience?

@simulate All I can say is a contracting rate of at least £500 a day. Even with your description, it's still impossible to say (am I expected to do design work? Attend client meetings? Implement someone else's design? Maintain the backend, or have it provided? How large is the site? Am I working with anyone else? What browsers does it need to work in? etc.)

It could honestly be anything from a day or two's work to months, depending on the requirements.

Look that depends on where you live, where you sell and your experience.

Your hourly rate is calculated something like this.

    1. Every cost to do business (rent, tools, taxes etc.) added up for a year. = "Business cost"

    2. a 15% contingency

    3. your profit margin

    4. your salery for a year you like to earn

    So per year:

Business cost + contingency + profitmargin + salery = X amount a year you need to make in oder to be a business.

X amount divided by the amount of hours you want to work equals your hourly rate. for example 40h @ 48weeks (4 weeks vacation)= 1920 Hours a year.

    questions?

@SortOfTested What kind of websites do you develop? This seems like an insane amount to me

    @simulate
Large scale applications that just happen to have web front-ends. Rate doesn't change though 😘

@SortOfTested And what industry? What is your degree? Or in short, how can I come to earn this much? 😄

Energy, presently. CS, 20+ years ago. Run your own startup after building industry contacts.

@SortOfTested Thank you for the advice, I am already looking to build my own startup but I am missing industry contacts as of now. And it is hard to estimate how long the project will take until it is usable.. it would require a full stack of tech and I am not very experienced in web development.
