@electrineer In the original context (a radio), this wasn't a problem, as the object which the radio buttons were configured (a radio) was controlled whether or not the configuration was in effect with a different control (i.e. a power button).
Why this paradigm hasn't followed into the actual design of its digital counterpart, the world will never know...

I'm all for enhancing the user experience. To some extent, making the UI get out of the way to focus on getting things done is admirable!
But it's absolutely *NOT* acceptable to absolutely change how established convention works.
For example, clicking a link should not perform a state change. Use a flipping button!
Checkboxes should not act like radio buttons!
(apparently non-interactable) text should not perform actions!
