But the day Microsoft bought GitHub is truly a day where that phrase was needed, since it was 90% of the rants that day.

GitHub? Millions others exist (GitLab, Bitbucket, etc.) and even if MS acquires them all, it's so simple to make a new one because git.

npm? It's open source. If it dies, someone else will fork the code and continue from there.
