There are only two reasons you should use Windows:
1. You are developing for Windows.
2. You cannot live without a game which still has no Linux support.

However, the right thing to do is refuse all contracts on Windows development and quit playing games that have no Linux port.

    3 words, league of legends

@RazorSh4rk it's already on Linux, man:)

You see. It's just a matter of time... Even League of Legends is on Linux now.

Activision, EA, Rockstar, Ubisoft... Never seen any of these make a port for Linux.

If Star Citizen gets ported it is good bye 4ever

@lucas22 often ports are published by other vendors who make porting their business.
You just didn't see. List Steam catalog for most selling games filtered by Linux OS. You'll be amazed.

    What about mac os ?

@HoloDreamer macos is just a piece of shit. No one in mind would ever use it.

    4. Your laptop drivers are poorly done for Linux, and even with laptop mode tools, battery lasts half of what it does in Windows. But you keep Linux as a second boot and also as a VM 😋

rocket league is on linux. but works like shit. on windows it's some smooth stuff.

Ridiculous. Use whatever is the most efficient for you. If Windows costs you more time than Linux, then use Linux. For me, Linux costs more time than Windows, so I use Windows (on the desktop that is. I use Linux on a few headless computers).

Same thing with editors. I can't stand modal editors, but I know that some people love them. If so, they should use them.

Use whatever software you work best with and leave the religious aspects to the Talibans.

not enough support for wifi hardware on Linux

The primary OS on my work laptop is windows, LINUX maybe better than windows in many aspects but NOT battery life and DRIVER support !

@Grumpy, if I could upvote more than once, I would. OS fanboy wars are where programmers forget logic.

I just don't like Linux, man :/ Don't push your OS architypes onto me.

@wolfram that is so true. It makes me sad!

@DutchmanDavid you don't need to leave Windows cold turkey. Just use it regularly and before you know it, you're loving it.

    GLORIOUS STEAM OS!

Games, man. Besides devs that don't bother with Linux (why?!) a bunch of older games which will never see the light of Linux :(
  • 1
@LucaScorpion wine is good enough for older games. For most of the really old games your still need an emulator even on Windows

@LucaScorpion I think the answer to "why" is market share. You develop for systems with enough users to make a profit. Apparently, the 2% of desktop users who run Linux aren't enough for most game devs.

Also, you have to deduct all the Stallman-type users who would never pay for software because of ideological (bordering to religious) conviction.
