A teacher in highschool got sued after they blamed him for taking pictures
The only evidence needed to suspend him was that he took down the sound of his camera

I believe it's also a thing here in the Netherlands, but I'm not sure. I still have it off though because it's fucking annoying.

Disabling the camera shutter sound is usually not illegal, but in some cases, disabling shutter sound and taking secret pictures are. In some countries this applies to public spaces aswell, but in most countries, it apply only to private spaces.

For example in sweden, this applies to both mobile cameras and standard cameras, regardless of sound, if you take a picture where someone expects some privacy, in a home, on a toilet, in a dress room, you must specifically ask for consent. Else its a crime called "Infringing photography". This also applies with shutter sound on, you must ask before, shutter sound is like shooting first and asking later.

But I think this is the positive things with Android. That there is settings for things like this with legalisations. While Apple forces some "common denominator" down everyones throat. (for example two-party recording rules and such, that you cannot disable)

Too bad that earphones/headphones that let people around hear what the person is listening to, are not illegal.
