I agree. Regardless of whether or not this related to your field, it will be useful in your life as a developer. In addition, many companies will not hire unless you have a degree.

@Letmecode @tpalmerstudios I agree with them.
I do not have a degree, and started from a hobby as well. Also experienced but not professionally. His makes a huge difference in finding a good job with a decent salary.
You will get hired if you have a degree AND show them your personal experience in web development.
It might will be tough to get through the uni but reading your post I think you will easily make it.
I wish you all the luck on he uni... just do it 😉 -
Since you're studying in a top university, also find out if they have any internship programs or sponsored projects in which you can participate. This will be a good addition to your resume and will also allow you to experience work culture in the industry, and depending on your performance, may even land you a job offer from the company backing the internship/project.

somebody7318yIt may look like a waste of time at first but in the end I learned quite some interesting stuff at uni. I enjoyed it, but I also started working part-time alongside and got hired based on my experience and knowledge not a degree. There are companies that care more about degrees and certificates and there are companies that care about what you can actually do. First ones pay better, second one is fun to work for. I don't see a degree as a must but if you don't get one now, you'll never get to it.

JustAGuy668yI am currently 4th year(last year) at a top engineering uni(also the hardest from my country according to some news) and i must say that college didn't learned me anything related to tech, but it helped me to learn things faster, to take exactly what i need from a sentence. I am also working for almost 2 years on programming in c# (cloud) (6h/day). It is very hard indeed and i really hate the uni but i must finish because a degree does matter to get the interviews( NOT to pass them).
Just do it and try to find a job where you do what you like! -
Thanks for all of your input. I'm going to finish the first year and then evaluate again.

OK, I have a dilemma and I need some developers helps. I'm going to tell you about myself. I am 19 and have been programming since I was 11. I consider myself a full stack web developer and that is where my passion lies... I love web development. The problem is that I am currently studying comp sci at a top 10 uni and I don't really like it. I kind of enjoy it, however, I am mostly doing it for the degree because my goal is to move to the valley (currently in the UK). I'm not sure whether I should pursue this degree because it's interesting and tbh I might just need time to get used to uni life or should I just go for it in the industry?
