    I see it as both wrote the code together. He got the fun part which is to create, you got the boring which is cleaning it up. I wish I could just write stuff as it comes to my head and have someone covering my back tidying up my work and cleaning up the mess.

    We try not to do this at work while the original author is still around. It's either they refactor it themselves, or at least, we ask them their reasons for implementing it this way and discuss why refactoring is necessary. Saves time in the long run...

    @ComputerIsBork of course, I just mean that refactoring someone else's code is not a bad thing at all and accepting it is a sign of maturity! Sometimes we just don't have time enough to write as we would like. Or, when we lack skills, see what was changed is the ultimate learning of better practices.
