Inspite of having a decent pc setup, ubuntu keeps stopping.

My pc specs are as follows :-

RAM - 16 GB DDR4

HDD - 1TB (Windows 10 professional)

SSD - 240 GB(Ubuntu 20.04LTS)

GPU - Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 ti

CPU - Intel i5-9400F (6) @ 4.100GHz

My daily usage hardly requires 5 gigs of ram. Ubuntu works suddenly hangs and works fine again...after sometime again this thing happens...in discord the same thing happens but more frequently than the normal workstation. When i give my password to login, then also it takes time more than normal to start. Even bootup takes like roughly 40 seconds whereas windows boots within 2-3 seconds. Any help would be appreciated.

Change your hdd, yours is dead. Get an ssd

Sound more like your ssd is dying, how old is that?

Search for ssd health tools to check if that's it.

I use Ubuntu in my workstation and never ran into any problems.

which version of Ubuntu are you running? If something is up with your hdd/ssd it should tell you in the disk manager thingy or you can get and run some diagnostics

SSD is dying or bad Mobo
Run a memtest just to be sure it’s not the RAM

    Check temps

@AalbatrossGuy I'm glad you fixed it! Were you playing videos when that was happening. I notice that, when I'm playing youtube on Firefox, my laptop fans go crazy, never crashes though

@wicho no.....the thing is that i saw my processes running and understood that firefox's tracking prevention thing was literally taking up all of my current working mem.
Like, if out of 16 gigs 5 gigs of memory is in use, firefox is taking up 4 gigs of memory inspite of showing that it is taking 1 gig. So i removed everything of firefox and installed chromium...and now everything's fine

@AalbatrossGuy So weird! 9 tabs on Firefox and it doesn't look as crazy.

Make sure your adblocker in FF is https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/...

@wicho i already removed everything that started with 'firefox'... lol

@AalbatrossGuy I'm sad you let FF go, it's been my default browser for like 8 years. I left it for a little bit when Chrome was released but got back a couple years later.

Well, cheers and enjoy your PC!
