    Thats just the way things are :)
    I mean, imagine if a bunch of people upvoted a rant and then the dude that posted it changes the entire thing.

    @yarwest 5 minutes is a bit extreme. Yeah sure on rants why not but comments?

    Because 5 minutes accounts for a large majority of use-cases and we think prolonged editing is much more dangerous than typos. Not that anyone would do it, but extended editing allows people to change up any kind of content (comments, rants) that many people have already liked.
