So I had an interesting conversation with a "developer" from another org:
Me: "So I might have a new client. Their site really needs an update."
Them:"Let me see." *goes to perspective client site*
Them:"Wow, that's bad!"
Me:"Yep it hasn't been touched since 08"
Them:"No, that's not the reason. The reason it looks this bad is because it is made with php."

Yeah, BECAUSE it was made with php. I couldn't even come up with a witty reply. :(

Yeah php had its time, it's so slow cumbersome in retrospect to JavaScript

PHP is very good. Maybe it was the developer or requirements.

Yeah but php can't even begin to come close to meteor and react. Which IMO is a huge deciding factor.

    Comparing apples with oranges really.

@Nojil *sigh* one does not simply compare a language to a framework just to prove said one is right. you can compare php to js/node and react/meteor to Zend/symfony, but ffs don't mix them as you find suitable.

at the end of the day it is the deva work that mater not the language. if a dev knows how to do the stuff correctly and has enough resources (employer provides that is) you can use worker queues for example and viola you have a highly performing application...

BTW assembly is faster than js /troll

I'm a PHP dev and while I know the language has many flaws, I do grow quite tired of hearing people hate on it, especially those who aren't skilled PHP devs. It certainly is easy to write bad PHP, but good PHP can still be written and can even run fast nowadays.

Just to make it clear, I wasn't posting this to hate on php, I just found it funny that he blamed the site's flaws on the language used.
