This is the situation:

I worked on a small project on freelance.mx: The project name is: "A Grid System with Bootstrap and Hover.css | Fontawesome Combination"

By the time I finished it, the client changed almost half of the requirements and told me that I didn't complete the work as It was supposed to and asked me to change it. He wanted that grid system to work as a sidebar as well...

He asked me then to make some modifications and adapt the code to fit the new requirements. I said: "I would do that but I would need to charge you more for that since a grid system and a sidebar are two distinct things and also these are new requirements"

Today is 7 days since I haven't heard anything from him and I sent him a message. He said that I didn't finish the work properly and marked the work on the platform as "Incomplete".

What should I do? This is unfair... Is there any way I can get the payment from this guy?

This is the first job I have on freelance.mx and it will make me have bad reputation.

Any advice?

Do you have well documented proof?
If so, you may contact the customer service?

For the future. Always set up a contract with milestones in which the custumer has to pay upfront for the next step.

@heyheni There is no document, however there is the chat history and the project name with the description. When I started the project he said: "A responsive Grid based on Bootstrap + Fontawesome integrated + hover animation/background transition as discussed based on hover.css"

The sidebar part of the project was a new requirement added at the end of the work.

I need to say. Since the call system on freelance.mx wasn't working, we had to chat a little on skype.

Maybe this is a bad thing since the platform freelance.mx doesn't allow to share contact details. I sent my skype ID.

I feel like I've been played by this guy...

How much time do you need to do the additional work?
Maybe you have to do it in order to get a deccent plattform rating. So that the next job will be better.

@heyheni Actually it's not that long. However I'm mad because the unfairness this guy is doing at me.

Changed half requirements and then told me that I didn't finish properly? Seriously?

I don't think this is the way us, programmers, should treat ourselves. I'm gonna talk to him and I won't do any extra job until I got my payment.

Imagine you are building a house and when the architect finish you change everything and don't pay him.

    I'm really mad at him...

This is part of the trouble with freelance sites. I did some work for someone a while back and we discussed requirements I agreed the price was fair, I spent the time coding and sent a demo, they returned wtf is this, this isn't what we agreed it's needs to work like X so I said X will cost you more money so they agreed I delivered x they wanted Y. Like no story short I got stiffed they didn't get a product because I licenced the demo but I didn't get paid for any of it because they put the payments in escrow. Fuckers not everyone is like this though

@philcr what is that about the license? Can I do this to my work too? How?

@javierojeda I put licence keys in demo software, doesn't mention anything for 14 days, then nags for two weeks and then stops working no need for demo software to run forever for free, I generally find awkward customers contact me about paying after three weeks

I had a similar experience during one of my first few projects as a freelancer. After that I've started taking clearly documented requirements and a contract that no major changed will be entertained.
