And what is the difference ? This in the picrure(no idea how is it called in English) was device of those times, smartphones on the other hand are today's device.

I think he's just comparing price. Otherwise, it was the same with these gameboy-like games, gameboys, playstations, etc. Same applies for books, non-standart pencils (drawing), piano, lego or basically any other object providing fun.
People just tend to whine about this, because it wasn't in their age, but they'd do exactly the same thing with the object as their kids do. Nothing smart at all (except some). Kids will look at youtube videos or play some game on it, but people tend to forget the _pros_ of objects.
Let's say piano or smartphone - those, at least at the bare minimum, increase fine motor skills. You can see a diff when you give a device requiring a precision to someone who never ever touched it. Most likely the display will curve a little under the touch or sound will come out completely loud. The child might have a damn way better skills than you'd ever have.
Or it'll be just another ape who breaks stuff just by looking at it.
