# Twenty years ago today (I double-checked) my father bought me the Liberty Basic compiler for my 8th birthday, marking what I consider my first foray into programming. Thanks to that, I'm a tired and moderately happy 50 year old man. Happy birthday, hobby from hell. :)

Umm, your maths don't work out... ;-)

@Demolishun that's what happens when you start with basic, it ages you.

Hex 20 = Dec 32. Aww, sadly still missing another 10 to the 50. Thought it might be clever

@jespersh

365 days is one year. 0x365 = 869

869 * 20 = 17380

17380 / 365 = 47.

So, he aged 47 years since then.

50 - 8 = 42.

He should have aged 42.

Ergo: Basic kept him 5 years younger.

Oh... bullshit math. Reminds me of my teenage years. I was into conspiracy theories.

Random reminder to the theorists here:

Liberty Basic first appeared on 1992.

Yes we were born in the same year, which seems like it should be symbolic of something.
