Boss: I need to demo our product but it looks smaller on my laptop.
Me: That is because you have a 1920x1080 monitor and your laptop is 1280x800
Boss: Is that something you can fix?
Me: No you will need a new laptop, but the company has a sales laptop with that resolution.
Boss: No just get the company credit card and buy me one today!
*Bosses son hears*
Bosses Son: Here take the sales laptop
Boss: Will that be quick enough
Bosses Son: It has a 8 core i7 Processor, 16GB ram and a dedicated GPU
Boss: *looks at me confused*
Me: Your demoing a web browser, that will be more then ok. But were using chrome so 16GB of ram will be pushing it.
*me and bosses son laughs*
Boss: Can we upgrade it?

    Why does sales need this config? 😕😕
  • 3
    @azous maybe they can configure the product and get a live 3d preview of the changes? Like some car sales people but good.

    @azous sales needs the speed to make sure they can quote it, sell it and promise it before the development team has a chance to write a single line of code.

    FWIW, you can set the display resolution lower than what the hardware allows if its a Windows box via the control panel.

    @starless FWIW means?

    @rehman for what it's worth

    Part of our business is facial recognition within crowds

    @starless But the screen resolution of the laptop was too low, not too high.

    i7 in a laptop with 8 real cores? Which CPU is that?
  • 0
    Well it's 4 cores with hyper-threading but they always say 8 cores as it shows up as that
  • 0
    Well this makes more sense then :p

    @ldrago @azous sales needs that much cause they have these really awesome research programs called crysis 3 & fallout 4.

    It's 4core/8threads, not 8 cores lmao

    @dayo Facial recognition within crowds from a laptop? You amaze and scare me at the same time....

    @dayo a man saying 8 cores even if it is 4, because it shows as 8 in windows task manager.
    This is a man with customer experience. I like it :).
