@dIREsTRAITS usually LUKS is what's being used, as for easy usage, I think major distros have options for it in their installers
In the case of Arch, the alis installer script does a decent job of that too -
OpenSUSE was good for this iirc, but I think even Ubuntu gives you the option when installing

@dIREsTRAITS Both are interesting distribution, but Tails is certainly not for day-to-day usage - it is intended to be run from a live disk, but optionally has an encrypted persistent container.
Use it if your life is in danger or if you really need to stay anonymous.
Qubes is interesting - it is possible to run every application in a separate VM.
Isolating all applications gives you great security (likely better than any alternatives), but you have to initially set up and manage the VMs from time to time.
