Saw an ad for Wix, went like this:

"You need a website, why not do it yourself?"

Aren't they advertising to NOT use their crappy platform?

nowadays "do it yourself" means using all GUI stuff and wysiwyg...🙄

Wix.com also does German ads. Funny thing about that: Wix sounds like Wichs. Wichsen is a verb in the German language which means jerking off.

Wix makes the shittiest most bloated sites you can imagine.

Our CEO used it to make the company site himself. Very simple site, just a few pages with some info. Every time you loaded it up your PC would start melting.

They also want to take over your DNS. Found this out the hard way... When they were making the site (the CEO and the chairman...!), CEO asks Chairman (who for some reason has the keys to the domain registrar) to change the nameservers to Wix because Wix says so in the site creation process.

They do it without telling anyone. Whole domain goes tits up - email, smaller sites, backup server addresses... we lose all our settings in one go! Next thing you know I get a call "BEN WHY IS THE EMAIL DOWN?".

When he left we switched to a simple home made one...

Wix separates the wannabes from the real clients. I've had so many clients come to me wanting me to rebuild their site after they did it with Wix. I also get asked by idiots all the time why I don't use it.

Really the only people who can use Wix more than once is an apple ITard who expects technology to be hand fed to them.

It's templates with drop and drag functionality, that's what they mean "do it yourself". I actually use it for my personal music website just because I'm short on time and they have nice modules built in to play, store and sell music and stuff. The sites are really, really limited. My theme is gorgeous but it totally sucks on mobile.

I hate wix, mass axing poor freelance developers trying to make a living.

@irshu pretty crap reason to hate a WYSIWYG, the argument could be made for typist receptionists who lost their jobs because the world moved on to saying people should learn to type their own shit.

@frontendben well, for me, not every apple user is retarded, but because ios is made to be able to be used by anyone with half a neuron, there are a lot of this kind of crap user.

I say that ios was thought to be used by half a neuron users, window was thought to be used by one neuron users, and in linux they didn't think about that at all xD
