Dear Microsoft,

Thanks for not completely fucking up Github. At least you didn't integrate Office365, allow only Azure deployments, or force downloading repos through OneDrive or something.

But like most developers, I don't deal well with changes to familiar interfaces.

So please.... STOP FUCKING TWEAKING THE BUTTON PLACEMENTS AND TEXTS ALL OVER THE WEBSITE.

(or at least send me a bottle of cognac and a box of chocolates before every UI experiment, so I can deal with it emotionally. I'm a very sensitive boy, you know).

    Anything you want to say about Google?

    As someone rightfully said here. Microsoft is kinda divided into "shit they do real fucking good" and "shit one can't believe how badly they fucked up"

    @AtuM yeah it's jinxed now... See ya in Azure!

    The changing of button layouts in every version of everything in MS is the worst part.

    That and the stupid media start menu. Like WHY!?

    Yes, I use Open Shell.

    Meanwhile, the user interface of the Java version of Minecraft actually seems to be getting better.

    Did something move? Still looking the same to me... unless I've already adapted or something...

    I don't really mind the ui/navigation changes but the default branch naming... like uuh, I don't fucking want a 'main' branch as default, I want any new repo to have a 'master' branch as it always did 😡

    I really don’t understand UI changes that make it supposedly “more user friendly”. Bitch, I am used to your last one...

    @Eklavya A lot could be said about Google, but does Google own GitHub? Is it relevant to this thread? Are you @dontbeevil in disguise?

    Side note: if you have a box you can use as a server, I can strongly recommend Gitea. I'm using Gitea for git.ghnou.su and it works really well. Much more lightweight than GitLab CE too, except in the memory department (assign 1GB at least).

    @Condor Yeah I use GitLab for most of my personal stuff... Honestly many of my projects which aren't open just use bare git (no web) in a more distributed setup, with multiple remotes.

    But I don't get to choose where the company hosts it 236 private repositories 😔

    @Condor Also if you want really lightweight you just run "git instaweb" 😄

    @JhonDoe its 2021, cant use "master" or "slave" anymore.
  • 4
    @bananaerror Bloody stupid, too.

    @JhonDoe I changed the default branch to master again recently. It feels like home now

    Did something happened?
  • 0
    Oh how nice you provide package management for EVERYTHING but Linux.
  • 2
    @JhonDoe you can change the default branch name in your settings

    Man companies need a public poll instead of making stupid UI changes. Why do they change things that isn't broken and just seem to make it worse?
  • 1
    @EthanSnowy thx a lot mate! that's a life saver.

    back to slavery by default 😎

    I like the design

    @rolexpo following your idea we could have still ms-dos era ui interfaces, or 90s internet
  • 0
    @dontbeevil Honestly command line interfaces for professional products that can be scripted is not a bad design. Not sure if Autocad is still like this, but it can make automating drawing functions very nice.

    @NEMESISprj what do you mean? GitHub is already on Azure. They migrated right after the acquisition.

    ( or did I check only at that time? )
