Got tired of these "share or die" messages and sent this to everyone-
"Hey, read this,

1. WA will not give free stuff if you forward a message to 10 groups.

2. You can't send a message to some people and cure someone else's cancer

3. WA won't pay someone else when you forward a goddamn message.

4. WhatsApp gold is fake. It is a fake app that can steal your passwords, pictures and other private stuff.

5. Gods don't use WhatsApp. So you won't die if you don't forward messages.

6. WhatsApp.com is the only official WhatsApp site.

Sites like 'whatsapp.xyz.com' and 'claimprize.whatsapp.fml.com' are FAKE.

☺☺

Now you know. Spread this! "

    Let those people get their time and data stolen... I really don't care about idiots who can't figure this out by themselves

    You should replace the last sentence with "Now share this with 10 WA groups or you'll have bad luck for the rest of your life!".

    I think we aren't the target of your rant. We, the Devs kinda know how it all works

    @stimulate even if the idiots are your parents?
  • 1
    @stimulate Because all of us are tech literate of course. But in the real world, there are moms, grand dads, uncles, little kids and so much more on What's App.
    There is no way these people that are not tech literate deserve abuse for that, do they?
    I still have to remind from time to time my mom that Facebook won't steal her photos, even if she puts the warning in her feed. Do you mean to say she deserve to get hacked?
    There's a lot of people out there with different skillsets than yours, that doesn't make them idiots.

    @dontPanic this is not for us. You guys send this to your non-dev friends 😂

    @Synth-Synapses I don't think it requires a lot of technical knowledge to recognise that there are fake messages out there. I understand your point, and I did never mean to say these people deserve to be the victims of scammers. But people who buy "if you don't share this message your mother will die in 24h" are honestly nothing but idiots. The internet is not a new technology anymore and more importantly it takes up half of our life today. It is a "skill" you should definitely acquire nowadays. But really, it's just not that hard actually. It's not even a skill, it's just common sense. There are scammers and liars in the real world too and everybody has to figure for themselves.

    Why don't we just give our parents an extension to their browser that blocks fake sites?

    @ironedr so okay what do you want me to do about it? We can't make everything completely failproof for everyone. This is just the real world and if you get scammed and you can't see through it, you made a mistake. And that does not mean you are an idiot, but you should try and learn from it. And honestly, most people 70+ are just mentally exhausted and do stupid things. That is reality and does not mean they are "bad/stupid people", but please stop acting as if that would not make a difference. All I was trying to say is, that there will always be scammers and there will always be people who will fall for it. But we seriously have bigger problems than that and personally, I believe if we keep making the world into a safe space for even the most incapable, people will not develop the skills to solve problems anymore. Evolution is all about competition and improvement does not happen if even the losers can win. But of course there are other abilities than scam detection people can have.

    @ironedr
    Excuse me?
    I never said that scam victims deserve to be scammed. I even underlined that that was not my point already! And you are telling me I am straw manning you?
    Let's recap this discussion for a second, so maybe you can find the "coherence" in what I say:
    - all I originally said was "I really don't care about idiots who can't figure this out by themselves"
    - Synth-Synapses then suggested the point that particularly older people do not have the technological experience to tell from scam or truth and that it is not an issue of intelligence
    - I partially agreed with this comment but argued that it does not require any technological experience to differentiate between a claim without evidence and the logically presumable truth
    - then you jumped in and accused me of insulting your parents and revealed that there was a problem with old people being scammed
    -I made clear I didnt mean to say scam victims are bad/stupid, but I stressed that there are people who do stupid things

    @ironedr
    ... I also said that we can not make everything easy and safe for everybody all the time. My grandmother is old, she forgets half her daily life, she fell 2 times in a train already and broke her pelvic bone, she had cancer and now has brain tumors. She has definitely already been scammed a few times. But what do you accused me of? That I am saying she is an idiot? I already said it was not intended to sound like "asshole" or "stupid" and even if it sounded like it, why are you taking this so fucking serious? I did not target anyone, it was a spontaneous reaction on this post and it does not exactly give examples which you were talking about. And now you are trying to lecture me about "social Darwinism" and "straw man arguing" while YOU are putting words into MY mouth. I never said scam victims deserve to be scammed and I did never call anyone stupid. You on the other hand insulted me directly by comparing me negatively with your grandparents and acted as if I insulted you.

    Talking about incoherent crap...

    @ironedr
    As I view it, Evolution and Darwinism is like a nature's law. It occurs everywhere, in every system. When Entities of the system are created different, there are some with advantages and some with disadvantages. Over time, if there is some kind of filter and if we assume the next generation of entities derives from the previous one and shares it's properties, the whole system will improve. But if we remove the filter... It's just kind of random.
    That's why I think we should keep a filter. Communism is a bad idea exactly because of this.

    @ironedr
    Yes, everything is fine I think I got a little bit too serious there too ;)

    But I still don't understand why you think social Darwinism is wrong or unscientific. But whatever, after all it was interesting arguing with you.

    I am sorry for my unfriendly language and I have to admit, I was not entirely correct with what I said in the beginning.
