"how did you kill the laptop?"
"I.. uhhh..."
"Wait, why does the laptop smell this good?" -
@piratefox I told IT right away what the problem was so that they don't waste their time trying to get it working. It was an old and rather shitty laptop anyway, and I got a proper one this time. :-)
-
@RememberMe They pulled out the existing SSD from the old laptop, it still was good, and no need to re-image. However, I got an i7 instead of an i5, 15" instead of 14", and a German keyboard instead of a US one.
Also, the wifi might actually work now without disconnecting every few minutes, though I've already installed a network cable for the company laptop anyway (WFH) in the guest network domain of my LAN. -
@Fast-Nop I find it hard to believe that any IT department would think it's fine to give employees a work machine that has issues like that. Employee time is worth way more than a laptop upgrade.
But eh. -
Guys, I guess thats the only way to get a new machine if your request is always declined. Trialed and tested.

@elizabethjhupp actually happened to me 🤣
I am very clumsy in the morning :P
Edit: didn't spill it on the keyboard luckily, just on the mousepad -
@RememberMe I'm using a 2014 i3 laptop for my job and a 2020 i7 for personal use LOL

@rEaL-jAsE True, but based on the price difference and the frequency of such accidents, it may still be cheaper to live with occasionally destroyed laptops. This specific laptop was so old and shitty anyway that it was a good riddance.
The bad thing today: I killed my laptop with coffee.
The good thing today: it was my company laptop, not my private one.
