    I think the problem is that in the US in English we have our own term for that ... but it also is an out of date term.

    In the US you might hear "clock in" or "punch the time clock / card" something like that. It's a term tied to old technology where you stuck some paper in a clock that would put a stamp to indicate when you started and stopped work.
