I'm trying to find a linux distro that suck less to study the basics of bash, and some c/c++ dev tools. I play around with linux since 2013. But I just can't believe that, still, until today, in gnome, you can't fucking chose a audio output and get to the system to remember on the next reboot.

I mean, it doesn’t fit in my mind this nonsense, if I can only solve this shit on the command line or in a configuration file, why don’t you take that shit off the option and put a plain text explaining how to configure this shit in the right way . Who expects a system to behave like this?

I don't know why someone lost their time implementing something useless, and worst, deceiving.

    GUIs are for pussies.

    You want to fuck with linux? Instal a non-gui version and go to town making your shell cool.

    I'm an Ubuntu Server headless kind of guy, but whatevs.

    Then once you learn how to do operations from the command line like connecting wifi or mounting a drive, the GUI you choose will matter a lot less.

    Well what does "suck less" mean to you?

    Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon here. No audio problems. For extended sound settings, also "pavucontrol" can be installed.

    Mint

    @Fast-Nop I had a good time with cinnamon for some time, but crashes a lot.

    @theNox not in the same sense of the "suck less programs philosophy", but partially, a program that should work correctly, and reliably.

    @HiFiWiFiSciFi that's right. On wsl2 👌🏻

    @daninsky Stable as a rock here, but I can't say how it was before Mint 20.

    @daninsky crashes? What have you done to it for it to crash often?

    @iiii Opening files in nemo caused crashes. To be more precise, open video files with vlc in nemo. It's silly, but unacceptable, even more when these shitty DEs can't recover on their own, and you have to restart or go to tty to solve this shit. Maybe not use nemo or vlc, but.. ye.

    Apparently my disro sucks less because I don't have that issue in gnome. One of my machines has an usb audio interface.

    And it really does not matter for your goal. You can even do it on Windows or OSX if that is your preference...
