I told my colleagues that I use excel to budget and they've been roasting me about it ever since.

Use what works for you. I usually roast people for using spreadsheets as databases, but this is one area where its use makes perfect sense.

Roast them back for letting you use their mothers as bicycles...

Sorry friends, my xlookup says you're all invalid data.

    Byebye.

... are they aware of what Excel was designed for? What do they suggest you SHOULD use?

The Head of IT at my institution told me that he has been managing his spending, mortgage etc etc like that for years with no issues, he has got macros down on that shit and at one point asked me about VBA and formula making and what not, I dunno what he was trying to do, but when he showed me what he does with it it was fairly nice, easy to use and COMPLETE.

Use what you are comfortable with, excel was made exactly for that. So i dunno why you are getting roasted.

I don’t see a reason to roast. Manually updating of things is satisfying.

No worries , I had worked with a company use Excel as a database ....

Excel is still one of my favorite tools when I have to get things done with a small set of data, quickly.

It's visually intuitive, fairly lightweight and interactive. And it even has lambda functions now.

@AleCx04 I have finally achieved my goal: "somebody spewing liquids".
