In Germany we call it a Mechatroniker. This was my career choice before I found out that I like writing web/desktop apps.

It was a better choice in my opinion. I've been binge watching DIY projects on youtube because I have nothing else to do. Somewhat unrelated but check out GreatScott! and TechIngredients at YT. I have nothing but respect for these men.
